Fully refurbished and enjoying awe-inspiring views over Swaledale and the River Swale, The Old Vicarage is a unique property offering light and space in a traditional farmhouse-style home, amid miles of some of the most beautiful open countryside Britain has to offer. Perched on its own, high on the side of the valley, the house is easily accessible by road and track while still being totally secluded.

Your stay with us guarantees all the usual mod cons and total comfort but with the added bonus of pure freedom and escapism. Since taking ownership of The Old Vicarage in June 2009, we’ve been working hard to breathe new life into this beautifully positioned property. As well as redecorating throughout and furnishing with a mixture of traditional and contemporary pieces, we’ve added a number of features for guests, including sitting-out areas to catch the views from sunrise to sunset – the perfect spot to barbeque, or to simply relax and take in the impressive scenery.

Better still, we are also offering use of private leisure facilities which include an excellent indoor pool, Jacuzzi, state-of-the-art gymnasium, sauna and steam room. We also invite guests to take advantage of our private fishing rights and river frontage, just a few fields from the house.

Reception Rooms

The Old Vicarage is a large period, farmhouse-style property that despite its very spacious layout retains the cosiness of a classic country getaway. Large open sash windows not only flood each room with natural light but also offer some of the most magical views you’ll ever take in - each one different and each one changing in colour and appearance throughout the day, with each season bringing its own distinctive hues. No other properties can be seen from any of the windows. There are just uninterrupted views of open countryside, sheep, cattle, the river, wooded hillsides and massive horizons.

Enter the large hallway with stripped flooring and beautiful staircase and it’s soon clear that comfort and style resonates through every living space in The Old Vicarage. We believe we’ve combined a warm, homely feel with charmingly designed interiors to bring you a Yorkshire self-catering experience you won’t forget.

Downstairs includes a generous living room furnished with two large comfortable sofas - perfect to sink into in front of the open fire after a hard day's hiking or sight-seeing, while panoramic views through three large windows bring the natural beauty of the outside directly into the room.

A small, cosy snug area can also be found on the ground floor providing a lovely quiet space ideal for reading, writing or making the most of our Wi-fi facilities. Every luxurious country hideaway should have one!

The dining room is a good size but still feels cosy enough to make it perfect for all occasions, be it a large dinner party or a romantic meal for two. The views from two large windows provide the perfect backdrop for candlelit dining during the summer months. The kitchen has all the usual mod cons but retains a genuine country feel with its original meat hooks, a large wooden table, hand-painted units and solid wooden worktops.

One of the striking features of the property is the eclectic mix of artwork displayed on its walls. You will find a wide variety of styles, including paintings from local artists.

Bedrooms

We’ve taken great care to individualise each of the five bedrooms and give them their own unmistakable character. Soft pastel walls, comfortable linens and colourful throws all add to their homely comfort, with furniture selected for its eclectic charm. Each bedroom has its own individual ‘picture postcard’ view of the surrounding landscape, which has to be seen to be believed – truly breathtaking.

There are three spacious doubles plus a twin and a single room offering varied and plentiful space for small parties, families and groups.

Good quality linen and towels are included in the rental charge and each bed has a luxury duvet and two pillows per person, with additional cushions and throws. If you have any allergies, please contact us to see how we can help.

Facilities

We are delighted to offer you the use of extensive leisure facilities just a short stroll from The Old Vicarage. The facilities, which have to be seen to be appreciated, are housed in beautifully converted farm buildings and boast a large, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium, which includes a table tennis table. Those following a tight fitness regime will find everything they need, while there is plenty to occupy family groups and those wanting to relax tired muscles after a hard day’s outdoor activity. There is also a full-sized, hard surface tennis court, which guests are also welcome to enjoy.

Guests using any of the leisure facilities will benefit from the use of two spacious changing rooms equipped with under-floor heating and showers. There is also a built-in music system in both the gym and pool areas.
