Dales Festival Food and Drink 2009 - The Festival takes place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend on a scenic site fronting the A684, half a mile east of Leyburn town centre. The centrepiece is the Food Hall where over 80 local and regional food producers offer their wares. The Theatre Marquee has cookery demonstrations throughout the day and a special feature is the Farming for Food area with interactive elements to encourage visitors, especially children, to make the link between agriculture and the food in the shops.

West Burton May Fair - Village Fair - Local parking (donation), Maypole dancing, Morris Men, Birds of Prey display, Children's games, slide, bouncy castle, BBQ hot dogs, Teas in Village Hall, Grand Raffle, White Elephant stall, and Tombola. Also Circus Artist, Art Display, Sing a long in Chapel, various stalls and Charity Displays. face painting. coconut shy, Dog Running and Egg Throwing competition.

Hawes Gala - Annual Hawes Gala. Fancy Dress Parade through Hawes onto the Gala Field. Side shows, children's races, etc etc. More info: www.hawes-gala.co.uk

5 July

Carperby Village Open Gardens - Over 20 gardens to appreciate. One acre garden on sloping site created and maintained by the owners since 1996. Island beds with shrubs and hardy perennials planted for year round interest. Was featured in WI Life Magazine. Entry £3.50. Food served in Village Hall by local WI.

12 July

Open Gardens and Scarecrow Trail in Bellerby - A dozen hidden village gardens are open to view in this lovely village of becks and bridges. You can follow a scarecrow trail, listen to music from the Leyburn Band and enjoy homemade food in the Memorial Hall. Gardens close at 16.00 hours.

YDNPA Event - Woodland Creatures at Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre - A traditional dales show in picturesque surroundings, Reeth Show in Swaledale, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is a great day out for the whole family, with entertainments, trade stands and a chance to see some of the best livestock on display. The Wensleydale Agricultural Show, Leyburn - A traditional dales show. Classes for cattle, sheep, heavy horses and ponies. Sheep dog trials, dressed walking sticks and vintage machinery. Muker Show, Muker, Swaledale - One of Yorkshire's most traditional shows - Classes for Sheep, Sheep Dog Trials, Handicrafts, Horticulture, Fancy Dress. Stone Walling Demo, Muker Silver Band in attendance.

5 September

The Moorcock Show, Mossdale, Hawes - One of the leading sheep shows in the Yorkshire Dales, watch the judging of various classes and breeds of sheep ,including Swaledales and Roughs, as well has having the opportunity to do some judging themselves. Join in with Children's entertainment. Craft specialists and an exhibition by local businesses and food producers. There will also be an exhibition of local historical photographs, and the usual vintage tractor display. Refreshments will also be available with delicious afternoon teas. Starting at 12.00 noon at Mossdale, between Hawes and Sedbergh on the A684.

13 September

Hardraw Scar Brass Band Festival, Hardraw Scar near Hawes - Hear the sound of Brass Bands playing within the sight of Hardraw Force at Britain's oldest regional contest! Provisional date. Starting 10am . More info: www.hardrawforce.com

25 September - 4 October

Richmond Walking & Book Festival - programme of walks will soon appear on www.richmondwalking.com and will be open for bookings from mid February. The Book Festival will again host a variety of events - authors confirmed so far include Peter Robinson and Ian Rankin, plus North Country Theatre will be telling the tale of the 2000 mile walk people did on the Oregon Trail. Home on the Range is created from research of women's diaries from that period and will take place on 2 & 3 October 2009. For further infomation search www.richmond.org
